Tryout Information
This fall, we are excited to announce we will be offering a combined Clinic/Tryout to be used as the evaluation process for 2020-21 Rocky River Travel Basketball teams. Like all other youth activities this year, we are committed to pursuing a safe and fun basketball season for the kids, yet we still have challenges to overcome to in order to move forward. This communication provides information on what we know to date and plans we have been able to set in place thus far.
This year we will hold our Clinic/Tryout at the Rocky River Recreation Center while we continue to work with the RR City Schools on a request to use the school gyms for practices and games as we have in the past. While we are hopeful there will be a travel league available for us to enter, that still has to be determined by the North Coast Youth Travel Association as they assess their ability to organize a season with all participating communities. In the meantime, we are thrilled to get the kids back in the gym and offer these three (3) clinics to our 3rd-6th graders.
Please note: Given the limitations on days and times with available gym space, we ask that you register for the Clinic/Tryout only if you have intentions of trying out for the travel team. While we cannot guarantee there will be a season, at a minimum your child's enrollment will include three (3) sessions of basketball instruction by the RRHS Coaching staff. In years past we have been fortunate enough to have enough players with the talent to play at the travel level to have two teams per grade. We are hopeful we will be able to do the same this year, but do anticipate that if we have a lower turnout for the tryouts, the numbers may limit how many teams we will be able to have per grade.
Here are the details regarding the process, days, and times for the upcoming RRTB Clinic/Tryouts:
*Please have your child wear their practice jersey with their name on their back from last year's tryout or season. If you are new, have not received one in the past, or last year's no longer fits, your child will receive one during check-in.
*We will start to sign the kids in at the Rec Center 10 minutes before the posted start time. Please do not hang around or enter the Rec Center until then to limit number of people gathering.
*No parents of spectators will be allowed to stay inside the building during these sessions. Please wait outside for your child to exit the building for pickup. (Yes, this may make things a bit congested.)
*Masks will be required to be worn during check in and until the player is inside the gym. All players must wear a mask when exiting the building after the Clinic/Tryout is complete.

The Girls and Boys 3rd-6th grade Clinic/Tryout will be held at the Rocky River Recreation Center.

What is Travel Basketball?
Rocky River Travel Basketball is a competitive program in which skilled players grades 3rd -6th compete in a west-side suburban league and participate in tournaments. Please visit the bylaws on the website to understand if this program is a fit for your child. Participating in the Clinic and Tryout does not guarantee your child a spot on a travel team.
